The HPRA is pleased to announce that it is one of a number of education partners working with the Irish Platform for Patient Organisations, Science & Industry (IPPOSI) to deliver a Patient Education Programme in the area of health innovation.

The programme, which is specifically tailored for Irish patient communities, is being piloted from September 2017 to March 2018. It is based on a ‘blended learning’ approach consisting of e-learning and face-to-face sessions.

The HPRA module, which will run for five weeks, will be launched by our Chief Executive, Dr Lorraine Nolan, via an interactive face-to-face meeting on Monday 13 November. The module is focused on Regulatory Affairs, Medicinal Product Safety and Pharmacovigilance. The programme students will complete three modules in total with the additional modules focused on clinical trials and health technology assessments. These modules are being supported by two other educational partners.

The HPRA’s participation reflects the commitment in our current Strategic Plan to help ensure that patients and users, and their healthcare providers, have ready access to the information they need to inform their decisions on treatment in addition to sufficient knowledge of the regulatory system.

The Patient Education Programme has been facilitated by IPPOSI’s continued leading role in the European Patients Academy in Therapeutic Innovation (EUPATI). Further information is available at www.ipposi.ie and at www.patientsinvolved.ie.
