Scientific Officer, Healthcare Products Distribution – Compliance

ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Healthcare Products Distribution (HPD) Inspections Coordinator, the role of Scientific Officer is to assist the operation of the Health Products Distribution section in all areas, particularly controlled drugs (CD) and drug precursors.

The role will focus on supporting the CD regulatory functions including drug precursors; to achieve required levels of performance; and to respond effectively to changes in the internal and external environment. The role will also include assisting the performance of other activities conducted by the section depending on business needs and requirements.

The Scientific Officer carries out technical and scientific evaluation relating to the full range of applications for CD and drug precursor licences in accordance with the requirements of national legislation, and the UN Conventions on Controlled Drugs. This includes the compilation and preparation of reports as required under the Conventions and the provision of any information as may be required to support the regulation of controlled drugs.

The Scientific Officer may also, as required, provide support to the activities of the CD/GDP Inspectors and to the Licensing section of the Compliance department. This will include: technical evaluation of authorisation, registration and variation applications.

Other areas which the Scientific Officer may be required to support include market surveillance for cosmetic products, including investigation of compliance and vigilance cases.

The Scientific Officer will provide technical information and advice to relevant bodies and individuals both internal and external to the HPRA.
The Scientific Officer maintains effective working relationships within the section and other areas of the HPRA, ensuring that any required interactions are adequately carried out.
