Problem Or Issue:
Recall of the Sungift 500 battery powered scooters.
Background Information Or Related Documents:
The Sungift 500 scooter is a battery powered mobility scooter for people with impaired mobility. During the investigation of an incident in Norway it was found that a risk of overheating of the battery wire in the Sungift 500 scooter can result in a fire. As a result of this incident Sungift 500 scooters have been withdrawn from the Norwegian market.
The manufacturer of these devices Sungift PLC no longer exists and therefore the Irish Medicines Board (IMB) has not been able to establish if these devices have been sold in Ireland.
The IMB is not aware of any similar incidents occurring in Ireland at this time.

Actions To Be Taken:
Examine the scooters you have in your stock to determine if you have any Sungift 500 scooters. If you find one of these devices stop using it immediately, take it out of service and advise the Irish Medicines Board.
