Date: 03/09/2014

The Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) today noted Judge John O’ Neill’s conviction at Dublin District Court in a case involving Viktoriya Bulankova who pleaded guilty to 19 offences relating to the importation, supplying without a prescription and marketing authorisation the prescription only medicine, Xeomin. The product was imported from Russia and contained the active substance Botulinum toxin, which was advertised by Ms. Bulankova as ’Botox'.

While under investigation in May 2013, Ms. Bulankova was informed by the Irish Medicines Board (now the Health Products Regulatory Authority) that she could not supply any Botulinum toxin product; however, Ms. Bulankova continued to import and supply Xeomin during the remainder of 2013 and up to May 2014 at Visona Beauty clinic in Blanchardstown.

On conviction, Ms. Bulankova was fined a total of €6,000 with four months to pay or imprisonment for 21 days in default.
