Beware of misleading claims – the HPRA does not promote or endorse specific health products or brands
09/05/2025 Public health updateWe are aware of an increase in websites and advertisements falsely claiming that their products, including medicines, medical devices and cosmetics, are directly recommended by the HPRA. This is not true. The HPRA does not promote or endorse specific products or specific brands.
Be cautious of websites and ads making these false claims. Do not buy these products, as they may be from untrustworthy suppliers who are advertising illegally and making false claims.
The HPRA authorises medicines but does not promote or endorse specific ones
The HPRA authorises medicines but does not recommend or endorse any one medicine or specific brand over another. As the national regulator for medicines in Ireland, we ensure that medicines meet safety, efficacy and quality standards. This is different from promoting or endorsing an individual product or brand. The HPRA does not give medical advice.
We do not certify, authorise or approve medical devices or cosmetics
The HPRA does not certify, approve or authorise medical devices or cosmetics. Any websites or adverts claiming that their medical devices or cosmetics are approved by the HPRA are making false claims.
Medical devices include products such as glucose monitors for diabetics and self-tests that are used to diagnose a condition or to monitor a particular treatment.
Cosmetics include products such as teeth whitening products, makeup and other beauty products.
