Ms Katherine Morrow appointed Director of Compliance at the HPRA

The HPRA has announced the appointment of Ms Katherine Morrow as its new Director of Compliance. Ms Morrow will lead the HPRA’s compliance department responsible for inspection, licensing, market compliance and enforcement activities, in support of the national regulator’s mission to protect public and animal health through the effective regulation of health products. Ms Morrow has over 30 years’ experience spanning pharmacy practice, health-professional and medicines regulation, professional education, and competence assurance.

Ms Morrow has held a number of senior leadership positions during her career. She joins the HPRA from APPEL (Affiliation for Pharmacy Practice Experiential Learning) where she held the position of Director and National Coordinator. She recently served as President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI), the statutory regulator for pharmacists and pharmacies in Ireland, where she led Council through the development of the PSI Corporate Strategy 2024–2028 and chaired Council and Fitness to Practise proceedings. Her leadership experience also includes senior roles with the Irish College of General Practitioners, the Irish Institute of Pharmacy, Boots Ireland, and in hospital pharmacy.

In her new role as Director of Compliance, Ms Morrow will be responsible for the national inspections programme for health product manufacturers, wholesalers and other regulated entities. She will also be responsible for market surveillance, product defect investigations, product recalls, and the risk-based sampling and analysis of medicines and other health products. The role includes representing the HPRA within European and international regulatory networks, helping to shape and strengthen regulatory standards and compliance practices.

Ms Morrow is a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) graduate of the University of Nottingham.
