Ivermectin - Change in Withdrawal Period for Cattle
Further to a review by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) of the withdrawal period for ivermectin-containing injectable products in cattle, the EU Commission has decided that the withdrawal period for slaughtering treated animals should be:
- 49 days in respect of cattle treated with ivermectin
- 49 days in respect of cattle treated with ivermectin and closantel in combination
- 66 days in respect of cattle treated with ivermectin and clorsulon in combination
This change has been brought about as a result of a European-wide review with the objective of harmonising the withdrawal period throughout the EU Community and is not the result of a safety concern. The decision is being implemented in all EU Member States currently. The change is specific to injectable formulations of ivermectin for cattle and does not affect pour-on formulations or other non-injectable formulations of ivermectin.
Withdrawal periods for species other than cattle are not affected by this change.
A list of veterinary medicinal products affected by this decision is attached as Appendix 1.
